What is Conor McGregor’s IQ?
A 13-second knockout and a fight IQ his own coach praises, but no Conor McGregor IQ level on any record we found.

No published IQ test result exists for Conor McGregor, and no page we found prints a number for his IQ level. What is documented is a UFC title in two divisions, a coach’s verdict on his fighting knowledge and a whiskey brand he co-founded. “Fight IQ” is a real fan term, but it is not a score.

Conor McGregor’s estimated IQ

IQ Metrics estimate100–120Achievement and academic record
What the estimate rests on
  • Won the Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight titles in 2012 (UFC.com lists him as the 145- and 155-pound champion), then took the UFC featherweight title by knocking out José Aldo 13 seconds into the first round at UFC 194 on December 12, 2015.
  • Won the UFC lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016, becoming, per UFC.com, the first fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously and the third to win titles in two weight classes.
  • Has trained at Straight Blast Gym in Dublin under coach John Kavanagh since 2008 and is listed by UFC.com as a jiu-jitsu black belt; Kavanagh has said Conor knows more about fighting than the rest of the coaching team put together (reported by Sportskeeda, January 2020).
  • Co-founded the Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey brand in 2018 with Audie Attar and Ken Austin; Proximo Spirits acquired a majority stake on April 27, 2021, and all three founders kept an interest.
  • No academic anchor: accounts say he left school at 17 for a plumber’s apprenticeship, and no exam result, class rank or degree for him is published.

This estimated IQ for Conor McGregor is an inference from achievement, and the weak point is the missing anchor: there is no test, exam score or degree, so the band is wide and its lower end is simply the population average. Success in fighting and in a co-founded business can rest on training, partners and timing as much as on general reasoning.

Background

Who Conor McGregor is

Conor McGregor was born on July 14, 1988, in Dublin, Ireland. He went to Irish-language schools, Gaelscoil Scoil Mológa in Harold’s Cross, then Coláiste de hÍde in Tallaght and Coláiste Cois Life in Lucan, and began boxing at twelve at Crumlin Boxing Club. By Sportskeeda’s account he left school at 17 to start work as a plumber’s apprentice; accounts differ on how long it lasted, from about a year in one biography to eighteen months in another. His amateur MMA debut came on February 17, 2007, in Dublin, and in 2008 he began training at Straight Blast Gym (SBG) under John Kavanagh.

UFC.com lists him as a professional since 2008. He won the Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight championships in 2012, during an eight-fight winning streak that ran through 2011 and 2012, and is described as the first European professional mixed martial artist to hold titles in two divisions at the same time. The UFC announced his signing in February 2013, and he debuted on April 6, 2013, at UFC on Fuel TV: Mousasi vs. Latifi, stopping Marcus Brimage in the first round.

At UFC 194 on December 12, 2015, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, he knocked out José Aldo 13 seconds into the first round for the undisputed featherweight title. At UFC 205 on November 12, 2016, at Madison Square Garden in New York, he stopped Eddie Alvarez in the second round for the lightweight title, which UFC.com records as making him the first fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously and the third to win titles in two weight classes. In 2017 he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match, and on January 18, 2020, he beat Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in 40 seconds.

As of October 2026, UFC.com lists his status as active. His most recent bout was UFC 329 on July 11, 2026, a bout against Max Holloway at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, his first UFC bout since July 2021. Outside the cage he co-founded the Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey brand, founded in 2018 with Audie Attar and Ken Austin; Proximo Spirits acquired a majority stake on April 27, 2021, and the three founders kept an interest in the brand.

Where it came from

Why no figure circulates

Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

Conor McGregor with a shaved head and a broad smile in a grey pinstripe suit in March 2025

Conor McGregor’s IQ has never been published, and unlike most profiles in this section there is no circulating number to trace back. Searches for “Conor McGregor IQ,” “IQ score,” “IQ level” and “estimated IQ” led to fight commentary, not to a figure, a test name, a date or an examiner. The documented record is about fighting, not psychometrics, so this page can only say what is on record and what an honest estimate looks like.

What people do find is “fight IQ,” the fan and coaching term for in-ring decision-making: choosing range, timing and tactics against a particular opponent. McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, speaking to Mac Life before UFC 246 in January 2020, said “Conor knows more about fighting than the rest of us put together,” as reported by Sportskeeda. A November 2023 Sportskeeda piece describes videos in which McGregor explains how he controls space. That is praise for expertise in one trained field. It is not a score on an intelligence test, and none of those pages offers a number.

The related search, “highest IQ UFC fighter,” is answered only by opinion. The two lists we opened, a 2022 Lowkick MMA guest post by Evolve MMA on the smartest MMA fighters of all time and an Evolve Vacation blog on the best fight IQs in MMA history, rank fighters by how they planned and adapted (Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones appear on both). Neither includes McGregor and neither cites a test result. A 2023 database of estimated IQs for public figures, which mixes calculated estimates with admitted judgment calls, does not list him either. No page we found ranks UFC fighters by a measured IQ.

Why a range rather than a figure? IQ tests sample general reasoning with timed verbal, numerical and spatial items, while elite fighting rewards years of sport-specific practice; McGregor has trained at Straight Blast Gym since 2008. Whether intelligence is limited to IQ is a real debate, but a title record cannot settle it. Compare Muhammad Ali, whose 80–100 range is anchored by a real 1964 Army qualification test: McGregor has no equivalent document pulling his band up or down, so ours rests on career record alone and sits beside LeBron James’s 105–120. For how such numbers are usually made, see where celebrity IQ numbers come from, and for what 100–120 means on the scale, the IQ bell curve.

Most widely cited—

Nothing specific: no website we found states an IQ for Conor McGregor. The nearest thing to a claim is the indirect one made by fight commentary, that he has an exceptional “fight IQ,” a coaching term that readers sometimes mistake for a score.

What we foundNo figure and no test result

No published IQ test result exists for Conor McGregor, and no circulating number could be found. We searched the phrasings people type (“IQ,” “IQ level,” “IQ score,” “estimated IQ,” “highest IQ UFC fighter”) and opened Sportskeeda (January 2020 and November 2023), fight-IQ lists from Lowkick MMA and Evolve Vacation, and a 2023 database of estimated IQs for public figures. None prints a number for him.

With no outside figure to set against it, the spread is only our own band, from the population average of 100 to about the 91st percentile at 120. The width is deliberate: for Conor McGregor’s IQ level, nothing measured pins it down, and unlike most of this section there is no inflated number to correct.

Questions

Conor McGregor — frequently asked

What is Conor McGregor’s IQ?

No IQ test result has ever been published for Conor McGregor, so there is no confirmed Conor McGregor IQ score. This site estimates his IQ level at roughly 100–120 from his documented career: UFC titles in two divisions, a jiu-jitsu black belt and a co-founded whiskey brand. It is an inference from achievement, not a measurement.

What is Conor McGregor’s estimated IQ, and how was it worked out?

The estimated IQ range here is 100–120, built only from public records: Cage Warriors titles in two weight classes, UFC featherweight and lightweight titles, and a business he co-founded in 2018. It is wide because he has no published exam results or degree to narrow it, and sporting success is not a validated stand-in for an IQ test.

Is Conor McGregor smart?

The record shows sustained high-level performance in a complex sport, with UFC titles in two divisions, and a coach, John Kavanagh, who has said Conor knows more about fighting than the rest of the coaching team. It also shows a co-founded business. None of that is a test score, so “smart” is supported as expertise, not as a number.

What does “fight IQ” mean, and is it the same as IQ?

Fight IQ is a fan and coaching term for in-ring decision-making: choosing range, timing and tactics against a particular opponent. It is not a score on an intelligence test and is not measured the same way. Praise for Conor McGregor’s fight IQ, including from his coach, says nothing about his IQ level.

Who has the highest IQ in the UFC?

No fighter can be named from test data. The “highest IQ UFC fighter” lists we opened, from Lowkick MMA and Evolve Vacation, are opinion lists of fight IQ that name fighters such as Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones. They do not include Conor McGregor, and they cite no IQ test results.

Did Conor McGregor take an IQ test or finish school?

No IQ test, exam score or class rank for Conor McGregor is published. Accounts say he left school at 17 to start a plumber’s apprenticeship, a job described as lasting a year to eighteen months. A lack of published results is not evidence of a high or a low score.

How does Conor McGregor’s estimated IQ compare with Muhammad Ali’s or Mike Tyson’s?

The estimated range here for Conor McGregor, 100–120, sits above Muhammad Ali’s 80–100 and overlaps the top of Mike Tyson’s 90–109. Ali’s range is anchored by a documented 1964 Army test; McGregor has no such record, so his rests on career achievement alone. All three are estimates from public records, not measured scores.

How does my IQ compare with Conor McGregor?

You can find out in about fifteen minutes. The IQ Metrics assessment is 30 questions, scored on the same 100-mean scale used throughout this page, so your result and the estimate above are at least expressed in the same units — one measured, one inferred. Once you have a number, the leaderboard shows where it would sit, and how we score and norm it explains the benchmarking.

Where does this estimate come from?

From the documented record rather than a test — the method is named above and set out in full under how we read a number. Compare it against the other athletes profiles, starting with Magnus Carlsen.
