No published IQ test result exists for Kyrie Irving, and no page we found states the “Kyrie Irving IQ 234” figure that searchers type. What is documented is one season at Duke (2010–11), the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NBA draft, a 2016 NBA title, and a coach’s praise for his “basketball IQ,” which is a game-reading term, not a test score.

IQ Metrics estimate105–120Achievement and academic record
What the estimate rests on
  • Committed to Duke on October 22, 2009 as a five-star recruit (Scout, Rivals and 247Sports ratings) and played the 2010–11 season there under coach Mike Krzyzewski: 11 games, 8 starts, 17.5 points per game.
  • Was reported in October 2011 to be enrolled in four classes at Duke during the NBA lockout, and said in May 2011 that he planned to finish his degree within five years.
  • Selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers on June 23, 2011; 2012 Rookie of the Year with 117 of a possible 120 first-place votes; later a nine-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA selection.
  • Point guard on the 2016 NBA champion Cavaliers (Game 7, June 19, 2016: 26 points and the go-ahead three-pointer), MVP of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and a 2016 Olympic gold medalist.
  • Dallas head coach Jason Kidd described him on February 7, 2023 as “someone whose basketball IQ is extremely high,” a statement about in-game decision-making, not about a test.

No test result exists, so this range is an inference from a record that is strong on performance and thin on academics: one college season, no published grades or SAT or ACT score, and no completed degree found. Recruitment to a university and elite sport both reward more than general intelligence, so treat 105–120 as a sketch, not a measurement.

Background

Who Kyrie Irving is

Kyrie Irving was born on March 23, 1992, in Melbourne, Australia. He attended Montclair Kimberley Academy in Montclair, New Jersey, for his freshman and sophomore years and then St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In 2010 he was a McDonald’s All-American, a first-team Parade All-American and, with Harrison Barnes, co-MVP of the Jordan Brand Classic; Scout, Rivals and 247Sports all rated him a five-star recruit. He committed to Duke on October 22, 2009, in a broadcast on ESPNU.

At Duke in 2010–11, under coach Mike Krzyzewski, Irving appeared in 11 games, 8 as a starter, averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 27.5 minutes; Duke finished 32–5 and lost to Arizona in the Sweet Sixteen. The Cleveland Cavaliers chose him first overall at the 2011 NBA draft, held June 23, 2011, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. He was the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year with 117 of a possible 120 first-place votes and won the 2013 Three-Point Contest. At the 2014 All-Star Game he scored 31 points with 14 assists and was named MVP as the East beat the West 163–155.

In 2014 Irving helped the United States win the FIBA Basketball World Cup and was named tournament MVP; that year he was also named USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year. In 2016 the Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors 4–3 in the NBA Finals, the franchise’s first championship. In Game 7 on June 19, 2016, a 93–89 win, Irving scored 26 points and hit a go-ahead three-pointer over Stephen Curry with 53 seconds left; LeBron James was the unanimous Finals MVP. That August Irving won Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro as the United States beat Serbia 96–66 in the gold-medal match.

Irving played for Cleveland (2011–2017), the Boston Celtics (2017–2019), the Brooklyn Nets (2019–2023) and, since February 2023, the Dallas Mavericks. His honors include nine All-Star selections (2013–2015, 2017–2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025), All-NBA Second Team in 2019 and All-NBA Third Team in 2015 and 2021. As of October 2026 he is on the Dallas Mavericks’ roster, listed by NBA.com at No. 11, ahead of the 2026–27 season.

Where it came from

Why no figure circulates

Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

Kyrie Irving in a white Cleveland Cavaliers jersey holding a basketball during a game in October 2013

Kyrie Irving’s IQ has never been published: no test result, SAT or ACT score, or school-record percentile for him appears in any page we found, and none states the number people search for, “Kyrie Irving IQ 234.” That pattern is common: celebrity IQ numbers usually come from lists that repeat each other or cite nothing.

234 is far beyond what any standard IQ test measures. On the usual scale it sits 8.9 standard deviations above the average of 100, about one person in 4.8 quintillion, hundreds of millions of times the world’s population. Tests are normed on samples of thousands, so they have no items or norms out there; the ceiling effect and the highest score a test can report explain why. The number reads as an exaggeration rather than a measurement, and we could not trace it to a test, an examiner or a date. For scale, an IQ of 120 already places a person in roughly the top 9 percent.

Kyrie Irving’s IQ score in college is a blank in the public record. He committed to Duke on October 22, 2009, on ESPNU, played the 2010–11 season (11 games, 8 starts, 17.5 points per game) and left for the draft; no IQ, SAT, ACT or grade-point figure from that year appears in anything we opened. The academic facts that are reported are modest and specific: in May 2011 he said he planned to finish his degree within five years, in October 2011 a Cleveland 19 News report had him enrolled in four classes at Duke during the NBA lockout, and Wikipedia records that by 2016 he had not completed it and had put those plans on hold.

Kyrie Irving’s basketball IQ is a separate, real thing. When Dallas added him in February 2023, head coach Jason Kidd described him as “someone whose basketball IQ is extremely high” (Sports Illustrated, February 7, 2023). That is a coaching phrase for spatial understanding, tactical decisions and playmaking, and CraftedNBA, which publishes a statistical “BBallIQ” table, states that its measure is not an assessment of personal intellect. The distinction shapes the estimate: LeBron James, his teammate on the 2016 champions, carries the same 105–120 range here, and Michael Jordan’s higher 115–135 rests on a completed University of North Carolina degree that Irving’s record does not include.

Searchers pair his name with “IQ 234,” “IQ score in college” and “basketball IQ.” We looked for a page that states 234 or any other score and found none.

What we foundNo test result, and no page that states 234

There is no published IQ test result for Kyrie Irving. We checked his Wikipedia entry and Wikidata record, his NBA.com biography, 2011 ESPN and Cleveland television coverage of his Duke year and degree plans, a 2023 Sports Illustrated report quoting his coach, and the CraftedNBA “BBallIQ” page. None gives an IQ, SAT, ACT or Wonderlic result for him. What exists is real but different: a documented playing and school record, and the coaching term basketball IQ.

The gap between the top of the range and 234 is not two estimates disagreeing. On the standard scale (average 100, standard deviation 15), 234 is 8.9 standard deviations out, about one person in 4.8 quintillion, and no test has norms that far from the average. Whatever its origin, it is not a test result.

Questions

Kyrie Irving — frequently asked

What is Kyrie Irving’s IQ?

Kyrie Irving’s IQ has never been published, so no measured score exists. His estimated IQ range here is 105–120, inferred from his Duke enrollment, 2011 first-overall draft pick, 2016 NBA title and Olympic gold. It is an inference from a public record, not a test result, and it carries real uncertainty.

Is Kyrie Irving’s IQ 234?

No source we found says so. 234 is 8.9 standard deviations above the average of 100, roughly one person in 4.8 quintillion, and standard IQ tests have no norms that far out. The number appears as a search suggestion, not as a test result with an examiner or a date.

What was Kyrie Irving’s IQ score in college?

No IQ score from his time at Duke has been published. He played the 2010–11 season (11 games, 17.5 points per game), was drafted first overall in June 2011 and was reported in October 2011 to be taking four classes at Duke. No SAT, ACT or grade-point figure appears in the sources we checked.

What does Kyrie Irving’s basketball IQ mean, and is it his IQ?

“Basketball IQ” is a coaching and fan term for in-game decision-making. Dallas coach Jason Kidd called Kyrie Irving’s basketball IQ “extremely high” on February 7, 2023. It describes how a player reads the game, so it is not a score on an intelligence test and cannot be converted into one.

Is Kyrie Irving smart?

His record shows sustained high-level skill and decision-making: a No. 1 pick, Rookie of the Year, nine All-Star selections and a go-ahead three-pointer in Game 7 of the 2016 Finals. That fits an estimated IQ between 105 and 120, but sport results are not an intelligence test, and no score exists to confirm it.

What did Kyrie Irving study at Duke, and did he graduate?

No declared major appears in the sources we opened. He spent one season at Duke (2010–11) before the 2011 draft, said in May 2011 that he planned to finish a degree within five years, and Wikipedia records that by 2016 he had not completed it. We found no later source showing a finished degree.

How does Kyrie Irving’s estimated IQ compare with LeBron James’s and Michael Jordan’s?

Kyrie Irving’s estimated range here, 105–120, matches LeBron James’s 105–120 and sits below Michael Jordan’s 115–135, which rests on a completed University of North Carolina degree. None of the three is a measured score; each is an inference from public records with a named weakness.

How does my IQ compare with Kyrie Irving?

You can find out in about fifteen minutes. The IQ Metrics assessment is 30 questions, scored on the same 100-mean scale used throughout this page, so your result and the estimate above are at least expressed in the same units — one measured, one inferred. Once you have a number, the leaderboard shows where it would sit, and how we score and norm it explains the benchmarking.

Where does this estimate come from?

From the documented record rather than a test — the method is named above and set out in full under how we read a number. Compare it against the other athletes profiles, starting with Magnus Carlsen.
