What is Nikola Jokić’s IQ?
NBA general managers named his basketball IQ the league’s best; that is a vote about how he plays, and no test score stands behind it.

Nikola Jokić’s IQ score has never been published: no IQ test result exists, and the numbers that circulate beside his name rate basketball IQ, not intelligence. Documented instead are three NBA MVP awards (2020–21, 2021–22, 2023–24) and the 2023 title with Finals MVP. This site’s estimated IQ is 105–120, inferred from that record, not from a test.
Nikola Jokić’s estimated IQ
- Selected 41st overall, in round 2 of the 2014 draft, by the Denver Nuggets, then won three Kia NBA MVP awards (2020–21, 2021–22, 2023–24), according to NBA.com. The NBA’s May 27, 2026 voting results place him second for 2025–26 MVP and on the All-NBA First Team.
- Won the 2023 championship, beating Miami in five games, and received all 11 votes for Finals MVP, averaging 30.2 points, 14.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists in the series (NBA.com, June 13, 2023).
- NBA.com reported on April 12, 2025 that he would become the third player to average a triple-double for a season, after Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook. On October 28, 2026 he recorded his 200th career regular-season triple-double, in a 104–91 win over New Orleans; NBA.com’s October 29, 2026 report gives Westbrook, the leader, 209.
- In the NBA’s 2025–26 general manager survey, 80% of respondents named him the player with the best basketball IQ, against 17% for LeBron James and 3% for Chris Paul. That is a poll of opinion about play, not a measurement.
- A former English teacher told AFP she remembered him as an “excellent” academic student in Sombor. It is a recollection, and we found no school test score, secondary-school record or degree.
No IQ test result has been published, and there is no academic record to anchor the range beyond a teacher’s memory of primary school. Basketball success rests on training, coaching and years of repetition, and “basketball IQ” is a peer judgment with no norm group, so the true value could sit outside this band.

What an IQ of 105–120 actually means
Set the claim aside for a moment. If someone genuinely scored in this range, here is what that would represent.
| Score range | Classification | Share of people | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 85 – 114 | Average | ~68% | The range most people fall into. |
| 115 – 129 | Above average | ~13.6% | Roughly one person in seven. |
| 130 – 144 | Gifted | ~2% | The threshold most high-IQ societies use. |
| Above 144 | Highly gifted | ~0.1% | Figures above this range are extrapolated from the curve rather than measured. |
Percentages are approximate and describe a normal distribution. The same number means different things on tests with different standard deviations.

Find out in 30 minutes →Who Nikola Jokić is
Nikola Jokić was born on February 19, 1995, in Sombor, a northern Serbian city that AFP described in 2019 as home to about 40,000 people near the Hungarian border. Wikipedia names Dositej Obradović Primary School as the school he attended. His former English teacher, Gordana Ralevic, told AFP he was an “excellent” academic student. We found no secondary-school record, degree or test score. Wikipedia notes harness racing as a childhood hobby.
Denver selected him 41st overall in the second round of the 2014 draft, per his NBA.com profile, which gives Mega Basket as the place he last attended. NBA.com’s Nuggets MVP page shows his three MVP seasons as 2020–21, 2021–22 and 2023–24, and calls him the runner-up for 2024–25. The NBA’s May 27, 2026 release lists him second to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for 2025–26, with Wembanyama third, and on the All-NBA First Team.
In June 2023 the Nuggets beat the Miami Heat in five games for the franchise’s first championship, closing with a 94–89 win. Jokić received all 11 media votes for Finals MVP, according to NBA.com. His national team record is a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and a bronze at the 2024 Summer Olympics with Serbia, per Wikipedia, and NBA.com’s profile counts one Olympic silver and one bronze.
Passing is what the basketball-IQ talk rests on. When NBA.com reported on April 12, 2025 that he would average a triple-double for the season, he stood at 29.8 points, 12.8 rebounds and 10.3 assists, and the 2024–25 season was his first with double-digit assists. On October 28, 2026 he recorded his 200th career regular-season triple-double in a 104–91 win over New Orleans; NBA.com’s October 29, 2026 report gives Westbrook, the leader, 209. Why no figure circulates
Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

Nikola Jokić’s IQ score has never been published, and the IQ numbers beside his name measure basketball, not intelligence. Searches for “Nikola Jokic IQ”, the unaccented spelling most pages use, return basketball-IQ coverage with no test, date or examiner. The step that turns praise into a score is the one described in where celebrity IQ numbers come from; in his case it stops at basketball-IQ ratings.
The nearest thing to a number is a basketball-statistics rating. Basketball IQ is a rating of how well a player reads and anticipates the game, and some statistics pages print it as a figure beside players’ names. Such a figure is a basketball statistic, not an intelligence quotient, and the pages name no IQ test, date or examiner.
The strongest evidence is opinion from people who play against him. In the NBA’s 2025–26 general manager survey, 80% of respondents named Jokić the player with the best basketball IQ, ahead of LeBron James (17%) and Chris Paul (3%). FIBA’s EuroBasket feature has Aleksa Avramović and Andreas Obst praising his basketball IQ and reading of the game. These are judgments of play, not scores.
The error to watch for here runs from a phrase to a number, not from a high figure to a lower one, because no figure circulates. His estimated 105–120 coincides with the range for LeBron James and for Victor Wembanyama. It sits below Michael Jordan’s 115–135, which rests on a completed degree. The overlap compares records and ranks no one; see how achievement measures differ from IQ tests.
How we read a number →Searched “Nikola Jokic IQ” and variants and opened the NBA.com, FIBA, Eurohoops, AFP and Wikipedia pages below. None reports an IQ test, Mensa membership or school test score.
Profile lists birthdate February 19, 1995, Serbia, draft 2014 round 2 pick 41, Denver, 3 MVP, 1 NBA champion, 1 Finals MVP, one Olympic silver and one bronze. The MVP page shows the 2020–21, 2021–22 and 2023–24 seasons and calls him the 2024–25 runner-up.
Nuggets beat the Heat in five games, clinching with a 94–89 win. He received all 11 votes from a media panel and averaged 30.2 points, 14.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists in the series.
The 2025 piece names Westbrook and Oscar Robertson as the other two, says it is his first season with double-digit assists and gives 29.8, 12.8 and 10.3 at that point. The 2026 piece has the Nuggets beating New Orleans 104–91 on a Wednesday and gives Westbrook, the leader, 209. Its stat line is inconsistent, so none is quoted.
MVP: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won, Jokić second, Victor Wembanyama third. Jokić is on the All-NBA First Team with Cade Cunningham, Luka Dončić, Gilgeous-Alexander and Wembanyama.
Best basketball IQ: Jokić 80%, LeBron James 17%, Chris Paul 3%, percentages of respondents to that question. Bleacher Report repeats 80% and 17% for a survey ahead of 2025-26. The number of GMs surveyed is not on the page.
Cited only as the origin of the basketball-IQ figures printed beside his name. Both pages rate how a player reads the game, not general intelligence, and neither cites an IQ test.
FIBA quotes Avramović, Obst and others on his basketball IQ (page undated). Eurohoops has Jokić calling Dario Šarić “a really high IQ player”.
English teacher Gordana Ralevic remembers him as an “excellent” academic student; Sombor has about 40,000 people. No degree or test score is mentioned.
Orientation for Dositej Obradović Primary School, harness racing as a childhood hobby, the years of the Olympic silver (2016) and bronze (2024), and the phrase “basketball genius”. Wikidata Q17281073 is the Serbian basketball player born 1995-02-19 in Sombor, with no date of death. Neither Wikipedia page gives a test.
The sources behind our estimate
The figures that circulate for Nikola Jokić, what we were able to confirm, and where the two diverge.
No IQ test number circulates for Nikola Jokić. What circulates is basketball IQ, a rating of how well a player reads and anticipates the game, which basketball-statistics pages print as a number beside players’ names. Those ratings are not IQ-test scores, and the pages name no test.
We found no published IQ test result for Nikola Jokić. The basketball-statistics pages, the NBA.com general manager survey, FIBA and Eurohoops all use IQ to mean reading the game. The English Wikipedia article says commentators cite his game IQ in calling him a basketball genius, and gives no test.
No IQ figure circulates, so the range has nothing to be set against. The numbers printed near his name on basketball-statistics pages are basketball-IQ ratings on a scale that does not measure intelligence.

Nikola Jokić — frequently asked
What is Nikola Jokić’s IQ?
No IQ test result for Nikola Jokić has been published, so his IQ score is not known. This site’s estimated range is 105–120, inferred from his MVP awards and 2023 title rather than from any test. What circulates is basketball IQ, a judgment of how he reads the game.
Did Nikola Jokić take an IQ test?
There is no public record that he has. The NBA.com pages, AFP interviews and FIBA coverage we read contain no IQ test, score report or school test result for him. Anyone quoting an exact IQ for him without naming a test is giving an estimate or a guess.
What is Nikola Jokić’s basketball IQ, and is it the same as an IQ score?
No. Basketball IQ means how well a player reads and anticipates the game. In the NBA’s 2025–26 general manager survey, 80% of respondents named Jokić best at it. Ratings printed on basketball-statistics pages use a basketball scale and do not measure general intelligence.
Is Nikola Jokić a genius?
Commentators call him a basketball genius, according to Wikipedia, and his record backs it up: three MVP awards, the 2023 title and, as of November 2026, a career triple-double count second only to Russell Westbrook’s. Those facts show exceptional skill at one game, not a score. No IQ test has been published to confirm or rule out genius-level intelligence.
Is Nikola Jokić in Mensa?
No source we opened says Nikola Jokić is a member of Mensa. We found no Mensa membership record, IQ test result or school test score for him. Praise for his basketball IQ describes how he reads the game; it is not a membership record or a test result.
How does Nikola Jokić’s estimated IQ compare with LeBron James’s?
This site estimates 105–120 for both Jokić and LeBron James, so the ranges coincide. Both are inferred from sport achievement, not from published tests. In the NBA’s 2025–26 general manager survey on basketball IQ, Jokić drew 80% and James 17%, which is a vote about play, not a score comparison.
Where did Nikola Jokić go to school?
