No Tom Cruise IQ test result has ever been published, and the 95 and 110 that circulate name no test, examiner or date. What is documented is fifteen schools in fourteen years, a 1980 graduation from Glen Ridge High School, four Academy Award nominations and three Golden Globes, which together support an estimated IQ of about 115–130.

What the estimate rests on
  • Graduated from Glen Ridge High School in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, in 1980 after fifteen schools in fourteen years (Wikipedia’s count; Fox News counts at least eight elementary schools and three high schools), including a stay at St. Francis Seminary in Cincinnati on a church scholarship that Wikipedia puts at a year and Fox News at one semester. No college degree, exam result or school test score for him appears in any source found.
  • Formed Cruise/Wagner Productions with his former agent Paula Wagner in 1993; its first co-production, Mission: Impossible (1996), was also his first film as a producer. Wikipedia’s filmography credits him as producer on more than a dozen films through Digger (2026) and as executive producer of The Others (2001), Narc (2002) and Shattered Glass (2003).
  • Four competitive Academy Award nominations: Best Actor for Born on the Fourth of July (1989) and Jerry Maguire (1996), Best Supporting Actor for Magnolia (1999), and Best Picture, as a producer, for Top Gun: Maverick (2022). The Golden Globe Awards site lists three wins for the first three of those films, in 1990, 1997 and 2000.
  • Top Gun: Maverick, released May 27, 2022, grossed $1.503 billion worldwide and earned six nominations at the 95th Academy Awards, winning Best Sound. Cruise received an Academy Honorary Award at the Governors Awards on November 16, 2025, and the Saturn Award for Best Actor in a Film, for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, on March 8, 2026.
  • Dyslexia, which he has said was diagnosed at age seven, is a reading difference and not a measure of intelligence (Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity; NHS), so it moves the range neither up nor down.

No IQ test result for Cruise has been published, so this range is an inference from a long, competitive career, not a measurement. The record has no degree, authored screenplay or school test score to anchor its lower end, and box-office success, awards and producing credits reward timing, collaboration and judgment as well as cognitive ability, so a true score somewhat below or above the range would contradict nothing documented.

Background

Who Tom Cruise is

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV was born on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York. Wikipedia counts fifteen schools in fourteen years as the family moved; Fox News gives at least eight elementary schools and three high schools. He later attended St. Francis Seminary in Cincinnati on a church scholarship, at age 14 by Fox News’s account; Wikipedia says he left after a year and Fox News says after one semester. Cruise graduated from Glen Ridge High School in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, in 1980, where he starred in the school’s production of Guys and Dolls, and at 18 moved to New York City to pursue acting.

He made his film debut in a bit part in Endless Love (1981) and appeared in Taps (1981) and The Outsiders (1983) before breaking through in Risky Business (1983) and Top Gun (1986). The Color of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988) and Born on the Fourth of July (1989) followed; for the last he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama and received his first Academy Award nomination, for Best Actor. Jerry Maguire (1996) brought a second Best Actor nomination and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, and Magnolia (1999) a Best Supporting Actor nomination and a third Golden Globe. Between and after them came A Few Good Men (1992), The Firm (1993), Interview with the Vampire (1994), Minority Report (2002), The Last Samurai (2003), Collateral (2004), War of the Worlds (2005) and Edge of Tomorrow (2014).

Cruise partnered with his former talent agent Paula Wagner to form Cruise/Wagner Productions in 1993, and the company’s first co-production, Mission: Impossible (1996), was also his first project as a producer. He is credited as a producer on all eight Mission: Impossible films through The Final Reckoning (released in the United States on May 23, 2025), as executive producer of The Others (2001), Narc (2002) and Shattered Glass (2003). Top Gun: Maverick, which he also produced, was released on May 27, 2022, after a Cannes screening on May 18, grossed $1.503 billion, the highest total of his career, and received six nominations at the 95th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning Best Sound. Cannes gave Cruise an Honorary Palme d’Or in 2022.

On the evening of November 16, 2025, Cruise received an Academy Honorary Award at the Governors Awards at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles, presented by the director Alejandro González Iñárritu. On March 8, 2026, he won the Saturn Award for Best Actor in a Film, for his role as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, at the 53rd Saturn Awards at Hilton Universal City. As of October 2026, his latest release is Digger, directed by Iñárritu, in which he plays Digger Rockwell and is also a producer; Variety reported in December 2025 that it was set for release on October 2, 2026, and Wikipedia lists a United States opening on that date.

Where it came from

Where the 95–110 figure came from

Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

Tom Cruise smiling, with swept-back brown hair and a teal jacket over a light blue open-collar shirt, at the 53rd Saturn Awards in March 2026

Tom Cruise’s IQ score has never been publicly disclosed, and the two numbers that circulate for it carry no test behind them. Riot IQ, whose March 17, 2026 article by Dr. Russell T. Warne asks “Does he really have a 95 IQ?”, says that figures such as 95 appear on celebrity trivia websites with “absolutely no documented source or scientific basis,” and it does not name the sites. The other figure comes from kuechenfibel.de, a German FAQ page that answers “Welchen IQ hat Tom Cruise?” with a line saying that “we” gave him an IQ test, that 100 was required and that he reached 110, and links gala.de as the source. It names no test, no examiner, no date and no “we.” A pass mark of 100 is simply the average of the scale itself, and an unnamed test cannot be checked; the pattern is the one that fills most pages in this section (see where celebrity IQ numbers come from).

The Tom Cruise dyslexia question is the one fact that bears directly on the IQ query, and it comes from his own account. In an interview with the Spanish magazine XL Semanal, published on Sunday, January 4, 2009 and reported by AFP the next day, he said he was diagnosed at age seven. Dyslexia is a difference in reading, not a measure of intelligence: the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity says it “occurs at all levels of intelligence—average, above average and highly gifted,” and the NHS page on dyslexia in children says it “does not affect intelligence” (see dyslexia and IQ). Is Tom Cruise smart? The dyslexia answers a different question, and it neither lowers nor raises the estimate on this page.

A Tom Cruise estimated IQ of 115–130 is built from the record, and it sits a notch below the other leading men this page can reasonably set beside him. In the Tom Cruise IQ vs Matt Damon comparison, Damon’s 120–135 leans on a Harvard enrollment and a shared Academy Award for co-writing Good Will Hunting; Sylvester Stallone’s 120–135 rests on the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Rocky; and Arnold Schwarzenegger also sits at 120–135 by the same achievement-based method. Cruise’s record lists acting and producing credits, not an authored screenplay or university work, which is why his range is set slightly lower. It matches Will Smith’s 115–130, another blockbuster lead rated by the same method. A range of 115–130 runs from a score around 115 to one near 130, roughly the 84th to the 98th percentile.

The direction of the error is unusual here. Sourced records on this site almost always support a lower range than the figure in circulation, but for Cruise the unsourced 95 and 110 already sit below the range. That does not make them right: a 110 from an unnamed test would carry a margin of error of several points before any doubt about the test itself (see IQ score margin of error), and an estimate drawn from a career can run high or low. What the record supports is narrow and checkable: more than four decades of leading roles and producing work, three Golden Globe wins, four competitive Oscar nominations and an Honorary Oscar, none of which is a test score.

AggregatorRiot IQ, “What Is Tom Cruise’s IQ Score?” by Dr. Russell T. Warne (March 17, 2026)

States that Cruise’s IQ score “has never been publicly disclosed” and that figures such as 95 on celebrity trivia websites have “absolutely no documented source or scientific basis”; names no site that prints the 95. Also says dyslexia “is not a measure of general intelligence.” Gives no estimate range for Cruise.

Aggregatorkuechenfibel.de FAQ page, section “Welchen IQ hat Tom Cruise?”

Prints the German line saying that “we” gave him an IQ test, that an IQ of 100 was required and that he reached 110, with a link to gala.de; names no test, examiner or date. The same scraped page mixes answers about other people, so it is treated as unsourced.

The evidence

The sources behind our estimate

The figures that circulate for Tom Cruise, what we were able to confirm, and where the two diverge.

Most widely cited95–110

Two figures circulate for Tom Cruise’s IQ. Riot IQ says a 95 appears “on various celebrity trivia websites” and does not name one; a German FAQ page, kuechenfibel.de, prints an answer that an IQ test required 100 and that he reached 110, and links gala.de as its source.

What we foundNo sourced test result behind either figure

We found no published IQ test result for Tom Cruise, and neither the 95 nor the 110 names a test, an examiner or a date. Riot IQ (March 17, 2026, by Dr. Russell T. Warne) states that his IQ score “has never been publicly disclosed” and that figures such as 95 have “absolutely no documented source or scientific basis”; it does not say which sites print the 95, and no page found does. kuechenfibel.de answers the question “Welchen IQ hat Tom Cruise?” with an unattributed line saying that an unnamed “we” gave him an IQ test, that 100 was required and that he reached 110. The page points to gala.de for the full answer, and no gala.de page stating it turned up. Both numbers sit below the range this site estimates, which is the reverse of the usual pattern: most circulating celebrity figures sit above what the record supports.

Also published elsewhere
95110115130

Both circulating numbers fall below the estimated range, the reverse of the pattern on most profiles here. Neither rests on a test, so neither is evidence either way: on the usual 15-point scale a 95 would sit near the 37th percentile and a 110 near the 75th, and the page’s range rests on the documented record instead, with its weakness named above.

Questions

Tom Cruise — frequently asked

What is Tom Cruise’s IQ?

No Tom Cruise IQ test result has been published, so his IQ is unknown. The 95 and 110 that circulate online name no test, examiner or date. This site’s estimated IQ range of 115–130 is inferred from his record: fifteen schools in fourteen years, a 1980 high school graduation, four Oscar nominations, three Golden Globes and a producing career since 1996.

Is the Tom Cruise IQ score 95 or 110?

Neither figure is documented. Riot IQ says a 95 on trivia sites has no documented source, and a German FAQ page, kuechenfibel.de, prints a line saying an IQ test required 100 and he reached 110. It names no test, examiner or date and points to gala.de, where no page stating it was found.

Did Tom Cruise take an IQ test?

No published record says so. No school record, testing body, clinician or interview found names an IQ test taken by Tom Cruise, and Riot IQ states his IQ score “has never been publicly disclosed.” What is documented is his 1980 high school graduation, a dyslexia diagnosis at age seven by his own account, and a film career.

What has Tom Cruise said about his dyslexia?

In an XL Semanal interview published January 4, 2009, he said he was diagnosed at age seven. Dyslexia is a reading difference, not a measure of intelligence: the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity says it occurs at all levels of intelligence.

Is Tom Cruise smart?

The documented record shows sustained, competitive work rather than a test score: producer credits from Mission: Impossible (1996) to Digger (2026), four competitive Oscar nominations, three Golden Globes and a $1.503 billion Top Gun: Maverick. His dyslexia is not a measure of intelligence. This page estimates a range of 115–130, not a score.

How does Tom Cruise’s estimated IQ compare with Matt Damon’s?

In the Tom Cruise IQ vs Matt Damon comparison, this site estimates Cruise at 115–130 and Damon at 120–135, so the ranges overlap between 120 and 130. Damon’s rests partly on a Harvard enrollment and a shared Oscar for co-writing Good Will Hunting; Cruise’s rests on acting and producing credits. The circulating figures are 160 for Damon and 95 and 110 for Cruise, none from a test.

Did Tom Cruise go to college?

No source found lists a college degree for him. He graduated from Glen Ridge High School in New Jersey in 1980, after a short stay at St. Francis Seminary in Cincinnati and fifteen schools in fourteen years, and moved to New York City at 18 to act. His first film role was a bit part in Endless Love (1981).

How does my IQ compare with Tom Cruise?

You can find out in about fifteen minutes. The IQ Metrics assessment is 30 questions, scored on the same 100-mean scale used throughout this page, so your result and the estimate above are at least expressed in the same units — one measured, one inferred. Once you have a number, the leaderboard shows where it would sit, and how we score and norm it explains the benchmarking.

Where does this estimate come from?

From the documented record rather than a test — the method is named above and set out in full under how we read a number. Compare it against the other actors profiles, starting with Natalie Portman.
