Born William James Adams Jr. in the Estrada Courts housing projects, Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, he was bused across the city to Brentwood and Pacific Palisades schools as a child — “I got bussed out to Palisades to get a better education,” he said in a 2021 Revolt.tv interview. He founded the Black Eyed Peas in 1995, which went on to seven Grammy wins and multi-platinum global sales.
Outside music, he founded the technology venture i.am+ in 2013, holds design patents on wearable and camera hardware, and completed Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management program in 2024 after never having walked at his own high school graduation.
