What is Kendrick Lamar’s IQ?
A Pulitzer Prize and 27 Grammys are on the record. A transcript, a GPA and an IQ test are not.

Kendrick Lamar’s IQ score has never been published, and no IQ test result exists. What is documented is a reported straight-A record at Centennial High School, the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music for DAMN., and 27 Grammy Awards; the 120–130 that circulates online cites no test.
Kendrick Lamar’s estimated IQ
- Reported straight-A student who graduated from Centennial High School in Compton in 2005; the claim traces to a Compton city statement quoted by FOX 11 in February 2016, and no transcript or GPA is public.
- Won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music for DAMN., which the Associated Press reported as the first non-classical, non-jazz work to win the prize.
- Has won 27 Grammy Awards, the most of any rapper, after the February 1, 2026 ceremony.
- Six studio albums from Section.80 (2011) to GNX (2024), including To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), which NPR’s Oliver Wang reviewed as an attempt at the Great American Novel in music.
- Co-founded the creative company pgLang in March 2020, the company through which GNX (2024) was released with Interscope Records.
Nothing here is a test. A Pulitzer and 27 Grammys are juried judgments of music, and the school record is a city statement plus a press interview, not a transcript. This estimated IQ range is an inference from sustained, publicly judged writing and composition; it says almost nothing about the spatial, numerical and processing-speed items that make up most of an IQ test.

What an IQ of 120–135 actually means
Set the claim aside for a moment. If someone genuinely scored in this range, here is what that would represent.
Average is 100 by construction, and about two-thirds of people fall between 85 and 115. Take the test to place your own score on this scale.
| Score range | Classification | Share of people | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 85 – 114 | Average | ~68% | The range most people fall into. |
| 115 – 129 | Above average | ~13.6% | Roughly one person in seven. |
| 130 – 144 | Gifted | ~2% | The threshold most high-IQ societies use. |
| Above 144 | Highly gifted | ~0.1% | Figures above this range are extrapolated from the curve rather than measured. |
Percentages are approximate and describe a normal distribution. The same number means different things on tests with different standard deviations.
Thirty questions gives you a measured position on this exact scale — your score, your percentile and the ability breakdown behind it.

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born on June 17, 1987, in Compton, California. Wikipedia’s biography, citing press interviews, says an English teacher, Regis Inge, introduced him to poetry in seventh grade at Vanguard Learning Center, and that he later attended Centennial High School, where he adopted the stage name K.Dot and began rapping at school; he graduated in 2005. The same account says he considered studying psychology and astronomy but set college aside for music. No college degree is documented, and he returned to Compton College as its surprise commencement speaker on June 7, 2024.
His studio albums are Section.80 (July 2, 2011), good kid, m.A.A.D city (October 22, 2012), his first major-label project, To Pimp a Butterfly (March 15, 2015), DAMN. (April 14, 2017), Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (May 13, 2022) and GNX (November 22, 2024), the sixth, surprise-released through pgLang and Interscope Records. DAMN. won the Pulitzer Prize for Music on April 16, 2018. At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026 he won Best Rap Album for GNX and, with SZA, Record of the Year for “Luther,” reaching 27 Grammys, the most of any rapper and two ahead of Jay-Z’s 25.
On February 13, 2022 he co-headlined the Super Bowl LVI halftime show with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige, a performance that won a Primetime Emmy Award, and on February 9, 2025 he headlined the Super Bowl LIX halftime show. Time placed him on its list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016.
With a longtime creative partner he launched pgLang on March 5, 2020, a Los Angeles company whose stated scope spans music, film, television, art, books and podcasts; its own site describes it as designed to be artist-friendly above all else. As of October 2026 Lamar is living and active.

Where the 120–130 figure came from
Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

No published IQ score exists for Kendrick Lamar: no school, clinician or testing body has released a result, and the pages that print a number do not cite one. The most visible figure is 120 on check-iq.org (published September 9, 2024, updated February 10, 2025), which averages three other sites — The Scientific Place at 120, IQ-test.org at 115 and Kenyalogue at 125 — and rates each input “Low” confidence. Kenyalogue’s own page says only that many sources put his IQ between 120 and 130, and names none. It is an average of guesses, the usual pattern described in how celebrity IQ numbers originate.
The one hard-sounding fact behind the guesses is his school record, and it is thinner than it sounds. Kendrick Lamar’s IQ level is often argued from the line that he graduated from Centennial High School in Compton in 2005 as a straight-A student. The clearest statement found for this page is a Compton city statement quoted by FOX 11 Los Angeles on February 12, 2016. Wikipedia footnotes the same claim to a 2010 video-interview post and a 2016 article on the school’s principal, and the text of those archived pages does not print his grades. No transcript, GPA or class rank is public, and one site that gives a 4.0 GPA cites nothing. Grades and IQ overlap, but they are different measures.
What is documented is craft. The Pulitzer board’s citation for DAMN., as quoted on Wikipedia’s 2018 Pulitzer Prize page, calls it “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism,” and the Associated Press reported on April 16, 2018 that it was the first non-classical or jazz work to win the music prize. NPR’s Oliver Wang described To Pimp a Butterfly in March 2015 as an ambitious attempt at the musical equivalent of the Great American Novel. That is evidence of sustained verbal and compositional skill, the kind a verbal IQ test samples only in part. It is not a vocabulary count: The Pudding’s web chart of rappers’ unique words, which uses each artist’s first 35,000 lyrics, leaves Lamar out for lack of enough official material.
Placed among the hip-hop profiles on this site, Eminem is estimated at 120–140 on the strength of a documented vocabulary-building habit and corpus rankings, evidence this profile does not have, while Kanye West and Snoop Dogg are each estimated at 115–130. Lamar’s range starts five points higher than theirs because a reported high-school record, a juried prize and sustained writing credits are all on file, and it stops five points below Eminem’s upper bound because no published vocabulary count covers him. A Pulitzer is a judged prize, not a measurement; the piece on what was measured and what was guessed for Nobel winners draws the same line. The “smartest rapper” label that follows him traces to a Hip Hop By The Numbers poll, reported without a method, which is a reputation, not a result.
How we read a number →Checked Real IQ Test (November 16, 2023), Answers.com and Pink Wafer (April 2023); none cites a test, and the first two say his IQ is not publicly verified. A page claiming a 4.0 GPA (Skillnation) cites no source.
check-iq.org averages The Scientific Place (120), IQ-test.org (115) and Kenyalogue (125), all rated “Low” confidence. Kenyalogue says many unnamed sources give 120 to 130.
States he was a straight-A student at Centennial High School, according to a Compton city statement. No grades or GPA are given.
Reports that DAMN. won the Pulitzer Prize for Music, the first non-classical or jazz work to win it. The citation wording comes from Wikipedia’s “2018 Pulitzer Prize” page, which quotes the Pulitzer board.
States he now holds the record for most Grammy wins by a rapper with 27, passing Jay-Z’s 25, and lists Best Rap Album for GNX and Record of the Year for “Luther” among the 2026 wins.

Counts unique words in each artist’s first 35,000 lyrics and says Kendrick Lamar lacked enough official material to be included. A poster version is said to add him, but no count for him appears on the page.
Birth date, schools, album release dates, Grammy total and the education timeline, all footnoted to press that was cross-checked where it could be opened. Wikidata describes Q130798 as an American rapper and songwriter born June 17, 1987.

The sources behind our estimate
The figures that circulate for Kendrick Lamar, what we were able to confirm, and where the two diverge.
Online IQ pages give Kendrick Lamar’s estimated IQ as about 120: check-iq.org prints 120 as the average of three other sites’ figures (115, 120 and 125), and Kenyalogue says unnamed sources put it between 120 and 130.
No page opened for this profile cites a test, a testing date or a psychologist. check-iq.org rates all three of its inputs “Low” confidence; Kenyalogue names no sources for its 120–130; Real IQ Test (November 16, 2023) and Answers.com both say his IQ is not publicly verified or disclosed; Pink Wafer’s “10 Smartest Rappers” list (April 2023) gives no number, only a fan poll and the straight-A claim; and a page asserting a 4.0 GPA cites nothing.
The circulating numbers are modest rather than inflated, and they overlap the bottom of the range estimated here. That agreement is weak evidence: check-iq.org lists Kenyalogue at 125, the midpoint of the 120–130 band Kenyalogue’s own page gives, so one input to the average is itself an unsourced estimate.

Kendrick Lamar — frequently asked
What is Kendrick Lamar’s IQ?
No IQ test result for Kendrick Lamar has been published, so his IQ score is unknown. Online pages quote about 120, or 120–130, without citing a test. This site’s estimated range is 120–135, inferred from a reported straight-A school record, the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music and 27 Grammy Awards.
Did Kendrick Lamar ever take an IQ test?
No test is on record. Nothing published shows Kendrick Lamar sitting an IQ test or releasing a result, and pages such as Real IQ Test and Answers.com say his IQ is not publicly verified. The figures online are estimates from other sites, not scores from a test he took.
Is Kendrick Lamar smart, and why do people say he is?
By the documented record he shows exceptional skill in writing and composition: DAMN. won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music, he has 27 Grammys, and NPR reviewed To Pimp a Butterfly as an attempt at the Great American Novel. That shows craft in language, not a measured IQ.
Was Kendrick Lamar smart in high school?
Reportedly yes. A Compton city statement quoted by FOX 11 in February 2016 called him a straight-A student at Centennial High School, and he graduated in 2005. No transcript or GPA is public.
Is Kendrick Lamar the smartest rapper?
No ranking can show that. The poll naming him the most intelligent rapper was a Hip Hop By The Numbers vote reported without a method, and The Pudding’s vocabulary chart of rappers left him out for lack of official material. His Pulitzer is strong evidence of craft, not a measured ranking.
How does Kendrick Lamar’s estimated IQ compare with Eminem’s?
Kendrick Lamar’s estimated IQ range here is 120–135 and Eminem’s is 120–140. Both are inferences from documented records, not test scores: Eminem’s rests on a documented vocabulary-building habit, Lamar’s on a Pulitzer, 27 Grammys and a reported straight-A record. Neither has a published IQ test.
Does a Pulitzer Prize or a Grammy mean a high IQ?
Not by itself. The Pulitzer board cited DAMN. for its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism, and he has won 27 Grammys, but juries judge art, not reasoning tests. Those awards support a high-achieving range for a working songwriter, not a specific score.
How does my IQ compare with Kendrick Lamar?
You can find out in about fifteen minutes. The IQ Metrics assessment is 30 questions, scored on the same 100-mean scale used throughout this page, so your result and the estimate above are at least expressed in the same units — one measured, one inferred. Once you have a number, the leaderboard shows where it would sit, and how we score and norm it explains the benchmarking.
