Lady Gaga’s estimated IQ

IQ Metrics estimate120–135Achievement-based estimate (historiometric)
What the estimate rests on
  • Attended a Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer program, which selects on above-grade-level test results. Attendance is reported (the program posted about it in 2010), but her age, the qualifying test and the score are not documented.
  • Began playing piano at four, with lessons that taught her to learn music by ear; gained early admission in 2003 to Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP21), a music school at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
  • First recipient of the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Contemporary Icon Award (2015), which the Hall describes as honoring a songwriter-artist with “an iconic status in pop culture.”
  • Left CAP21 in 2005, during the second semester of her second year, to focus on her music career; no degree.
  • Academy Award for Best Original Song (“Shallow,” 2019) and 16 Grammy Award wins as of November 2026: evidence of sustained professional skill, not of test performance.

No IQ test result and no SAT score has been published for Lady Gaga as of November 2026. Center for Talented Youth attendance shows she qualified for a program that selects on above-grade-level ability, but the test, her age and the score are unknown, so this range is an estimate from her record and not a recovered score. Awards measure creative and professional achievement, which a test does not.

Background

Who Lady Gaga is

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta was born on March 28, 1986, at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. She began playing piano at four, and the lessons taught her to learn music by ear; for what research says about music training and intelligence, see music lessons and IQ. From age 11 she attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a private all-girls Catholic school.

She is listed as an alumna of Johns Hopkins’ Center for Talented Youth, but the year and her age are not documented. In 2003 she gained early admission to CAP21, a music school at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She withdrew in 2005, during the second semester of her second year, to focus on her music career, and released her debut album The Fame in 2008.

On April 23, 2015, the Songwriters Hall of Fame announced her as the first recipient of its Contemporary Icon Award, to be presented at its June 18 dinner in New York City. The Hall’s profile lists her songwriting credits, among them “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Bad Romance,” “Born This Way” and “Applause.”

She won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2019 for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born. At the 2026 Grammy Awards she won Best Pop Vocal Album for Mayhem and Best Dance Pop Recording for “Abracadabra,” and GRAMMY.com lists her at 16 wins and 45 nominations. These are awards for songwriting and performance, so they show sustained skill and do not substitute for a test score.

Where it came from

Where the 166 figure came from

Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

Lady Gaga performing at Joe Biden’s 2021 presidential inauguration

Lady Gaga’s IQ is not on record: as of November 2026 no test result has been published, and the 166 online has no named test, date or examiner. celebrityiqs.com prints it under a note that its scores are “for entertainment purposes only,” and The Genius Index calls it “reported” without naming a source. Riot IQ’s profile (August 16, 2026) says it “comes from celebrity IQ listicles that cite no test of any kind.” For how such figures spread, see where celebrity IQ numbers come from.

The gifted-program record is real but thin. CBS Baltimore (February 26, 2019) reports that Johns Hopkins’ Center for Talented Youth posted about her attendance in 2010, and the Baltimore Fishbowl (September 9, 2013) calls it one of CTY’s summer programs while saying her age at the time is unknown. CTY eligibility is above-grade-level ability shown on tests such as the SCAT, PSAT, SAT or ACT, so attendance points to a qualifying result, but the test and score are not documented.

The rest of her early record is schooling, not test data. She began piano at four, with lessons that taught her to learn music by ear, and attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan from age 11. In 2003 she gained early admission to CAP21, a music school at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and she withdrew in 2005, during the second semester of her second year, to focus on music.

No SAT score appears in her Wikipedia biography, her Songwriters Hall of Fame profile or Riot IQ’s profile of her. That matters because some profiles on this site convert a documented SAT score into an IQ range; without one, her estimate rests on this record instead. The conversion method is explained in SAT score to IQ conversion.

The figures that circulate for Lady Gaga, what we were able to confirm, and where the two diverge.

Most widely cited166

166 is the figure printed for Lady Gaga on celebrity IQ sites such as celebrityiqs.com and The Genius Index. Neither names a test, a date or an examiner.

What we foundUntraceable

The 166 has no source behind it. Riot IQ’s profile of her (August 16, 2026) says it “comes from celebrity IQ listicles that cite no test of any kind,” and neither celebrityiqs.com nor The Genius Index gives a test, date or examiner. As of November 2026 no score report, school record or clinician’s account has been published that would support any figure.

The figures online come from aggregator sites, not test reports: celebrityiqs.com prints its 166 under a note that its scores are “for entertainment purposes only,” and The Genius Index calls its 166 “reported” without naming a source. Repeating a number across sites does not make it a measurement.

Questions

Lady Gaga — frequently asked

What is Lady Gaga’s IQ?

Lady Gaga’s IQ is not on record: as of November 2026 no test result has been published, and the 166 on celebrity sites names no test, date or examiner. This page estimates 120–135 from her documented record, which includes a Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer program, early admission to NYU Tisch’s CAP21 in 2003 and a Songwriters Hall of Fame award. That is an inference, not a measurement.

What is Lady Gaga’s IQ score?

No IQ score has been published for her; the Lady Gaga IQ score of 166 comes from aggregator sites. celebrityiqs.com prints it under a note that its scores are for entertainment purposes only, The Genius Index calls it “reported” without naming who reported it, and Riot IQ traced it to listicles that cite no test. A number repeated across sites is not a result.

Has Lady Gaga ever taken a public IQ test?

No public IQ test is documented. No score report, school record or clinician’s account has been published for her as of November 2026, and none of the school, university, award or program records on this page includes a score. For why lists of celebrity IQs should not be treated as records, see where celebrity IQ numbers come from.

Is Lady Gaga smart?

The documented record points to high academic and creative ability, but it contains no test score. How smart Lady Gaga is cannot be read off a number; what is on record is a Johns Hopkins gifted-program summer stay, early admission to a Tisch School of the Arts music school in 2003. Those are achievements, not a cognitive measurement.

What was Lady Gaga’s SAT score?

No Lady Gaga SAT score has been published. It does not appear in her Wikipedia biography, her Songwriters Hall of Fame profile or Riot IQ’s profile of her, and this page cites no interview or score report that gives one. What is documented is her route into college: she attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart from age 11, then gained early admission to CAP21 at NYU Tisch in 2003. For how SAT scores relate to IQ when a score does exist, see SAT score to IQ conversion.

Did Lady Gaga attend a gifted-student program?

Yes: she attended a Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer program. CBS Baltimore (February 26, 2019) reports that the program itself posted about her attendance in 2010, and the Baltimore Fishbowl (September 9, 2013) calls it one of CTY’s summer programs. Her age, the year and the qualifying test are not documented; CTY eligibility rests on above-grade-level results on tests such as the SCAT, PSAT, SAT or ACT, and gifted cutoff scores explains how such cutoffs work.

Did Lady Gaga graduate from NYU?

No. She gained early admission in 2003 to Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP21), a music school at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and withdrew in 2005, during the second semester of her second year, to focus on her music career.

How does Lady Gaga’s IQ compare with other musicians?

On this site’s estimates, Lady Gaga’s 120–135 range equals those for Taylor Swift and Madonna and sits below Beyoncé and Alicia Keys, both at 130–145. None of these is a measured score; each is inferred from a documented record.

How does my IQ compare with Lady Gaga?

You can find out in about fifteen minutes. The IQ Metrics assessment is 30 questions, scored on the same 100-mean scale used throughout this page, so your result and the estimate above are at least expressed in the same units — one measured, one inferred. Once you have a number, the leaderboard shows where it would sit, and how we score and norm it explains the benchmarking.

Where does this estimate come from?

From the documented record rather than a test — the method is named above and set out in full under how we read a number. Compare it against the other musicians profiles, starting with Brian May.
