Swift has one of the most exhaustively documented working lives in music, and not one line of it involves an IQ test. The 160 attached to her name was never measured, reported or claimed — it was simply written down.
None of this is a cognitive measurement. Songwriting, negotiation and sustained commercial judgement are evidence of something real, but they are not what an IQ test scores, and the range above is wide because the inference is long.
Set the claim aside for a moment. If someone genuinely scored in this range, here is what that would represent.

She has written or co-written her catalogue throughout, and wrote Speak Now alone. Her four Album of the Year Grammys are a record no other artist holds. The Eras Tour, staged across 2023 and 2024, became the highest-grossing concert tour ever mounted.
In 2019 her back catalogue was sold along with Big Machine without her participation. She responded by re-recording the albums as Taylor’s Version releases, and in May 2025 bought the original masters outright from Shamrock Capital, which had acquired them in 2020.
The estimate above rests on this record. Every entry here is a matter of public fact, which is more than can be said for the number itself.
Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.
This page is worth reading beside Shakira, the other modern musician profiled here with no test on record. Shakira at least has a documented academic thread to argue from. Swift has none, and the number attached to her is the larger of the two.
What makes the case unusual is how much genuine documentation exists and how little of it anyone uses. Swift is among the most closely covered public figures alive. Her contracts, her writing credits, her masters dispute and her touring finances are all matters of public record. None of it has ever produced an IQ figure, because none of it is an IQ test.
The honorary doctorate is probably where the number gets its air of respectability. NYU awarded her a Doctor of Fine Arts on 18 May 2022 and she gave the commencement address at Yankee Stadium. An honorary degree is a tribute, not a qualification, and involves no examination — but it puts the word doctor beside her name, and on aggregator pages that is often enough.

160 is the figure that circulates most widely, usually with no source attached at all. A second cluster of sites gives 136.
Swift has never claimed an IQ score, and no journalist or biographer has reported one. That is unusual even here: most invented figures can at least be traced to a hoax table, a self-report or a misread news story. This one appears to have been written straight onto aggregator pages and copied outward. There is nothing underneath it to check.

No. She completed secondary school at Aaron Academy in 2008 and did not attend university. The doctorate from NYU, awarded in 2022, is honorary and involves no examination.
It indicates sustained skill in a demanding craft. It is not an IQ measurement, and the two should not be conflated — which is exactly the substitution this page exists to flag.
No. That band runs from roughly the 91st to the 99th percentile. It is our honest reading of an achievement record, and it is stated as a range precisely because no measurement exists to narrow it.
Brian May, who holds a real doctorate in astrophysics, Mozart, estimated by Cox’s 1926 method, and Shakira, whose case most closely resembles this one.
