It is not a contradiction. It is savant syndrome, and it is the clearest real-world demonstration of why an averaged score and a profile can tell almost opposite stories.
Savant syndrome is a documented, long-studied pattern in clinical psychology in which a person shows a striking ability in one narrow domain that stands in sharp contrast to their general cognitive functioning. The domains that appear most often are strikingly consistent across the case literature: calendar calculation, rapid arithmetic, music performed by ear, freehand drawing from memory, and rote memory for specific categories of fact. What unites them is narrowness — the ability does not generalise into a broad advantage across reasoning tasks the way a high Full-Scale score would predict.
