What is Emmanuel Macron’s IQ?
The documented record is a French civil-service elite track, Sciences Po, the ENA and the Inspection générale des finances, not a test score.

Emmanuel Macron’s IQ has never been published: no test result has come from him or any official source, so the 119 figure online comes from a quiz page, not a test. His documented record, a philosophy degree at Paris Nanterre, Sciences Po, and the ENA in 2004, then the Inspection générale des finances, supports an estimated IQ of 130–145.

Emmanuel Macron’s estimated IQ

What the estimate rests on
  • Earned a DEA, a master-level research degree, in philosophy at the University of Paris-Ouest Nanterre La Défense in 2001, and a master’s in public affairs at Sciences Po, graduating in 2001, according to Wikipedia.
  • Graduated from the École nationale d’Administration (ENA) in 2004, according to the Élysée biography. ENA admission was by competitive examination, and the school produced around 80 to 90 graduates a year.
  • Joined the Inspection générale des finances, a Finance Ministry inspectorate, after the ENA and worked there for four years, according to the Élysée biography.
  • Worked as an investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque from September 2008, was promoted to partner in 2010 and left in 2012, according to Wikipedia.

These are institutional milestones, not test scores. Selective French schools and competitive exams reflect preparation, schooling and circumstance as well as ability, and a fifteen-point range is wide. No IQ, aptitude or entrance-exam score is public for him, and the record checked here lists no doctorate, which is why the range stops below the top of Angela Merkel’s.

Background

Who Emmanuel Macron is

Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron was born on December 21, 1977, in Amiens, in northern France. He was educated mainly at the Jesuit Lycée la Providence in Amiens and finished school at the Lycée Henri-IV in Paris with a Bac S, mention très bien. He also studied piano at the Amiens conservatoire.

He studied philosophy at the University of Paris-Ouest Nanterre La Défense and earned a DEA, a master-level research degree, in 2001. He also took a master’s in public affairs at Sciences Po, graduating the same year. He entered the École nationale d’Administration (ENA) in 2002 and graduated in 2004. Admission to the ENA was by competitive examination. The school was replaced by the Institut national du service public at the start of 2022.

After the ENA he joined the Inspection générale des finances and worked there for four years. According to Wikipedia’s ENA article, top-ranked graduates usually join the grands corps, which include that inspectorate. In September 2008 he left it for Rothschild & Cie Banque as an investment banker. He was promoted to partner in 2010 and left the bank in 2012. He was Deputy General Secretary of the Presidency until July 2014, then Minister for Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs from August 2014 to August 2016.

He has been President of the French Republic since May 14, 2017, the eighth president of the Fifth Republic. As of November 2026 he remains in office in his second term, and the Élysée diary lists official activity through October 2026. Where it came from

Where the 119 figure came from

Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

Emmanuel Macron in a dark navy suit, white shirt and patterned navy tie, with short brown hair, looking at the camera with a slight smile

Emmanuel Macron’s IQ score online is 119, and it rests on an online quiz, not on a test he took. BRGHT, an online quiz site, titles a page “Macron has an IQ of 119” and shows 31 of 40 answers correct on its own quiz. The page gives no date and does not say who answered.

The official record is silent on the number. The Élysée biography lists his studies, his years at the finance inspectorate and his offices, and gives no score. For how such numbers usually start, see where celebrity IQ numbers come from.

The 119 does not measure Macron: a quiz percentile describes whoever answered the quiz, and the page does not say who that was. A real score would need a test he sat, and none is on record. The estimated range on this page, 130–145, comes from his documented schooling and career instead.

The closest comparisons on this site are leaders whose ranges also come from records, not tests. The 130–145 estimated here matches Barack Obama’s, which rests on Harvard Law School honors, and sits below the top of Angela Merkel’s 138–155, which rests on a completed doctorate in quantum chemistry. Opinions about any leader’s intelligence, favorable or not, are not test results. For lists and what they rest on, see world leaders ranked by IQ.

Questions

Emmanuel Macron — frequently asked

What is Emmanuel Macron’s IQ?

Emmanuel Macron’s IQ is not publicly known: no IQ test result has been published by him or any official source. One online page gives 119, a quiz-site result with no test behind it. Judged from his documented Sciences Po, ENA and finance-inspectorate record, this page estimates 130–145.

Is Macron’s IQ level 119?

Not as a measured result. The quiz site BRGHT prints 119 under the title “Macron has an IQ of 119”, based on 31 of 40 correct answers on its own online quiz. The page gives no date and does not say who answered, so it is a quiz result, not an IQ test score for Macron.

Does Emmanuel Macron have a doctorate?

No doctorate appears in the Élysée biography or in the record checked here. His qualifications are a DEA in philosophy from Paris Nanterre (a master-level research degree), a master’s in public affairs from Sciences Po and graduation from the École nationale d’Administration in 2004.

Did Emmanuel Macron take an IQ test?

No IQ test taken by Emmanuel Macron has been made public, and he has not publicly stated a score. His official Élysée biography lists his studies, the École nationale d’Administration, the Inspection générale des finances and his offices, and gives no test result.

Is Emmanuel Macron smart?

Smart is a judgment, not a measurement, and this page does not rate it. What is documented is a record of selective schooling and public service: a philosophy degree, Sciences Po, the ENA in 2004 and four years at the Inspection générale des finances. That supports an estimated IQ of 130–145, not a score.

How does Macron’s estimated IQ compare with Angela Merkel’s and Barack Obama’s?

This page’s 130–145 matches Barack Obama’s 130–145 and sits below the top of Angela Merkel’s 138–155, which rests on a completed doctorate in quantum chemistry. All three ranges on this site are inferred from documented records, not from test results.

What did Emmanuel Macron study?

He studied philosophy at Paris Nanterre, earning a DEA in 2001, and took a master’s in public affairs at Sciences Po. He graduated from the École nationale d’Administration in 2004 and then spent four years at the Inspection générale des finances before working at Rothschild & Cie Banque from 2008 to 2012.

How reliable is an estimate based on an academic and career record?

Better than an unsourced number, and still noisy. Selective schools and competitive exams reflect preparation and circumstance as well as ability, which is why the range here is fifteen points wide and why it is never a measured score.

How does my IQ compare with Emmanuel Macron?

You can find out in about fifteen minutes. The IQ Metrics assessment is 30 questions, scored on the same 100-mean scale used throughout this page, so your result and the estimate above are at least expressed in the same units — one measured, one inferred. Once you have a number, the leaderboard shows where it would sit, and how we score and norm it explains the benchmarking.

Where does this estimate come from?

From the documented record rather than a test — the method is named above and set out in full under how we read a number. Compare it against the other politics profiles, starting with Thomas Jefferson.
