Bridgit Mendler is an American entrepreneur who first became known as a Disney Channel actress and a pop singer. CNBC describes her filmography as including “Good Luck Charlie,” “Wizards of Waverly Place” and “The Clique.” She left that career to study. CNBC says she spent “several years” at MIT and Harvard Law School before launching her company.
At MIT she was appointed a Director’s Fellow of the Media Lab in 2017, after the original cohort was announced. The Media Lab profile describes her work as technologies that support inclusive and collaborative governance and citizen engagement. Her master’s thesis, supervised by Deb Roy, studied software for dispute system design. E! News quotes her saying she started a Ph.D. in 2020 and paused it in 2023 when her family moved to California.
Harvard Law School is the second degree. E! News reports that she walked the stage at the May 23, 2024 commencement. CNBC adds that her time at the Federal Communications Commission’s new Space Bureau is where she “completely fell in love with space law.” That experience led to the company.
Northwood Space builds satellite ground stations, the antennas that connect to satellites. CNBC says the company was announced on February 19, 2024 with about $6 million in seed funding from investors including Founders Fund and Andreessen Horowitz. Mendler is CEO. Her husband, Griffin Cleverly, is the chief technology officer, and Shaurya Luthra leads software. Data Center Dynamics reported on January 28, 2026 that the company raised a $100 million Series B.
