What is Keanu Reeves’ IQ?
A high-school dropout at seventeen who went on to co-write a novel with China Miéville; the only IQ number online is one unsourced 136.

Keanu Reeves’ IQ has never been published, and the 136 that circulates for his IQ score comes from one site that names no test. What is documented is four high schools and no degree, then a career from Speed and The Matrix to John Wick, plus co-written books. This site’s estimated IQ for him is 115–130, an inference from that record, not a score.
Keanu Reeves’ estimated IQ
- Attended four different high schools, including De La Salle College, the Etobicoke School of the Arts and Avondale Secondary Alternative School, and dropped out at seventeen, according to Wikipedia. We found no university study and no honorary degree, so no school or college result anchors the range.
- Starred in Speed (1994), The Matrix (1999) and John Wick (2014); the last two grew into four-film series, and he also directed and acted in Man of Tai Chi (2013), per Wikipedia’s filmography. Wikipedia’s awards list shows four MTV Movie Awards (1992, 1995 and two in 2000).
- Created and wrote the BRZRKR comic series with Matt Kindt (art by Ron Garney, BOOM! Studios, 12 issues, first published March 3, 2021, per Wikipedia) and co-wrote the novel The Book of Elsewhere with China Miéville, published by Del Rey on July 23, 2024.
- Co-founded ARCH Motorcycle Company in 2011 and X Artists’ Books in 2017, according to Wikipedia; the press’s own events page records its launch party on July 12, 2017.
- Robert Downey Jr. called him “the most well-read and self-educated of all of us” in a piece by critic Emanuel Levy dated May 3, 2008: a peer’s opinion about reading, not a score.
No test result exists. He has no degree we found, so no academic result anchors the range. Franchise roles, co-written books and two small companies show skill, persistence and collaboration, not reasoning-test scores; 115–130 is a wide, soft inference that could be too high or too low.

What an IQ of 115–130 actually means
Set the claim aside for a moment. If someone genuinely scored in this range, here is what that would represent.
Average is 100 by construction, and about two-thirds of people fall between 85 and 115. Take the test to place your own score on this scale.
| Score range | Classification | Share of people | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 85 – 114 | Average | ~68% | The range most people fall into. |
| 115 – 129 | Above average | ~13.6% | Roughly one person in seven. |
| 130 – 144 | Gifted | ~2% | The threshold most high-IQ societies use. |
| Above 144 | Highly gifted | ~0.1% | Figures above this range are extrapolated from the curve rather than measured. |
Percentages are approximate and describe a normal distribution. The same number means different things on tests with different standard deviations.
Thirty questions gives you a measured position on this exact scale — your score, your percentile and the ability breakdown behind it.

Where the 136 figure came from
Following a claim back to its first appearance is the part almost nobody does — and it is what most people are actually asking.

Keanu Reeves’ IQ has never been published, and the 136 that circulates for his IQ score traces to no test we could find. The one page we opened that prints a number is the IQ Archive entry at thegeniusindex.pages.dev. It heads 136 as an “Estimated Cognitive Quotient” and later calls it a “reported IQ”, with no test, source or date. How numbers like this spread is covered in where celebrity IQ numbers come from.
Is Keanu Reeves intelligent? That question circulates mostly as a fan trait, not a number. The best-known remark is from Robert Downey Jr., quoted by critic Emanuel Levy in a piece dated May 3, 2008: Reeves is “the most well-read and self-educated of all of us.” Far Out Magazine ran it again on December 25, 2024. It is an opinion about reading, not a result; see reading and IQ for the research.
A figure near 136 is not impossible, but nothing documented requires it. On a scale with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15, an IQ near 135 is roughly the top 1%. Reeves left high school at seventeen and has no degree we found, so no school record anchors a number. School results and IQ are linked only loosely, so a poor school record is missing evidence, not a low score.
Beside other actors here, 115–130 puts Reeves level with Brad Pitt, who also left university without a degree, and just under Matt Damon’s 120–135. Damon left Harvard short of a degree but shared an Oscar for a screenplay. Reeves’ record has no comparable prize on the lists we read; it is broad instead: franchise roles, co-written books, a motorcycle company and a small press. That shows persistence and collaboration, not reasoning-test ability.
How we read a number →Born September 2, 1964, in Beirut; attended four different high schools including De La Salle College, the Etobicoke School of the Arts and Avondale Secondary Alternative School; “dropped out of high school when he was seventeen”; Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2005; ARCH Motorcycle Company co-founded 2011; X Artists’ Books founded 2017 by Reeves, Jessica Fleischmann and Alexandra Grant. Studios, 12 issues, first published March 3, 2021.
Identifies Q43416 as “Canadian actor and musician (born 1964)”, born 2 September 1964. The entry lists education and award items by identifier only; no IQ statement.
Reports Downey recalling a meeting with Reeves in a hotel lobby in Sydney, Australia, and quotes him: “When you talk to him, you can tell he’s the most well-read and self-educated of all of us.” The page does not say which films each actor was promoting.
Repeats the Levy quotation about Reeves being “the most well-read and self-educated of all of us” and links to the original interview page. The remark is Downey’s opinion; the article gives no test or score.
Reproduces the publisher’s announcement: Del Rey, an imprint of the Random House Publishing Group, publishes the novel on July 23, 2024; it is set in the world of the BRZRKR comic series Reeves created with Matt Kindt and Ron Garney, published by BOOM! Studios. Quotes Reeves: “China did exactly what I was hoping for.”
Lists the launch party for X Artists’ Books on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, welcoming designer Jessica Fleischmann, artist Alexandra Grant and actor/writer Keanu Reeves, and describes the press as “a new press publishing interdisciplinary and collaborative artists’ books”. It does not use the word founder.
Newest headline: “Keanu Reeves to Star in Netflix’s ‘Maelstrom’ From Director Jaume Collet-Serra,” October 26, 2026. No sign on the page that he has died; used for his status as of November 2026.
Heads the entry “Estimated Cognitive Quotient 136” and says “Keanu Reeves has a reported IQ of 136”. No test, source, confidence label or date; the only date on the page is the site’s 2026 copyright footer.
No school, testing-body, clinical or media record of an administered IQ test, and no Mensa claim, turned up in the pages checked: Wikipedia and Wikidata and the Levy and Far Out pieces. The only number found is the unsourced 136 on the IQ Archive.
The sources behind our estimate
The figures that circulate for Keanu Reeves, what we were able to confirm, and where the two diverge.
One page we opened, the IQ Archive entry at thegeniusindex.pages.dev, gives Keanu Reeves an “Estimated Cognitive Quotient” of 136.
We found no published IQ test result for Keanu Reeves. thegeniusindex.pages.dev heads its entry “Estimated Cognitive Quotient 136” and calls it a “reported IQ” in the body text; it names no test, source or date. The parts of his Wikipedia article we read do not mention IQ, Mensa or intelligence tests.
136 sits six points above the top of this site’s range, a small gap by the standards of these pages. It is still the usual direction: the only figure is higher than the record supports, and it comes with no test. Closeness to a plausible range is not confirmation.
Want a number that does hold up? Every figure on this page is somebody’s claim. Take the 30-question test and get a percentile you can check rather than a figure you have to trust.
